Dwayne Wade's 2nd Year in the NBA
Recently honored as "Player of the Month" by the NBA, Wade is third in the All-Star tally of votes for the East guard slot. Despite getting over 600,000 votes so far, Wade's mind is far removed from the star-studded game that takes place in Denver, Colo. on February 20.
"It's not on my mind, we've got a long way to go," he says, and nods when asked about being an All-Star. "I'm just gonna try to continue to get better, and what ever happens for this team and myself this season is all dedicated to hard work.
"He keeps his teammates involved rather than coming down the court dribbling between his legs and taking 40 shots," says new teammate Shaquille O'Neal, who affectionately refers to Wade as "Flash" in the locker room. "I think he is the best second year player I've seen since Mike [Jordan] and Dominique [Wilkins]."
"He (Wade) is a great player," said O'Neal. "We always get the ball in his hands at the end of games. He really wasn't in the flow during the game. We had a chance to win it and he won it for us. He had a turnover and he was pretty mad at himself. I told him to not worry about. I told him that we were going to get a stop and get the ball back. For a youngster he has a lot of poise. Too much poise."
